Topanga, 90290
Electrical contractor in Topanga.
Topanga loses power more often than almost anywhere in Los Angeles County, and when it does the well pumps stop. County Line Electric installs the standby generators that fix that, on propane where there is no gas, and wires the canyon's custom homes and rebuilds under county permits.

What is different here
One road in, county permits, and a grid that goes down with the wind.
Topanga is unincorporated Los Angeles County, permitted by the county's Building and Safety division and served by Southern California Edison along a distribution system that runs up a single canyon through heavy brush. SCE shuts it off in nearly every Santa Ana event, and ordinary wind and storms take it down the rest of the year. Most of the canyon has no natural gas main, so homes cook and heat on propane, and a standby generator runs on it too. Many houses are on wells, booster pumps or septic pumps that stop when the power does.
The January 2025 Palisades Fire reached the southern end of Topanga and prompted evacuation of the whole canyon; the area has burned before and will again. County Line Electric installs generators across Topanga, wires custom homes and rebuilds on the canyon's odd-shaped lots, and is about forty minutes away over the hill in Newbury Park.

EVGenerators
Propane, pumps, and a tank sized for a long outage.
A Topanga generator is sized against the pumps first: well, booster, septic, then the house. It runs on propane, so the tank has to hold enough for several days of a shutoff, and the tank location, the generator pad and the line between them are part of the design. County Line coordinates with the propane supplier, pulls the county electrical permit, installs the automatic transfer switch at the panel and comes back twice a year to service the unit. Standby generators has the full sequence.

Topanga questions
Does County Line Electric install generators in Topanga?
Yes. County Line Electric installs and services Generac standby generators throughout Topanga Canyon, including propane-fueled units where there is no natural gas main, sized to carry well pumps, septic pumps and the house through a multi-day shutoff. It pulls the Los Angeles County electrical permit and coordinates the propane tank with your supplier.
Who issues electrical permits in Topanga?
Los Angeles County. Topanga is an unincorporated community, so building and electrical permits come from the county's Building and Safety division. Electric service is from Southern California Edison.
Does County Line Electric work on rebuilds in Topanga?
Yes. County Line Electric wires rebuilds and new custom homes in Topanga under Los Angeles County permits, from temporary power and new SCE service through rough-in, standby generator and the final inspection.
Canyon lots
Wiring a house that is half on a hillside.
Topanga houses sit on lots that drop or climb from the road, with the service at one end, the house in the middle and a studio, a well head or a water tank somewhere else. Electrical on those properties is conduit in trenches that follow the terrain, equipment on retaining walls and pads engineered into the slope, long runs sized so the voltage holds up at the far end, and exterior gear chosen for a canyon that burns. County Line has done that work in Topanga and in the Malibu canyons for years, and it is the reason the generator pages for this area talk about pumps and propane before they talk about kilowatts.
The first call
What County Line asks about your project.
The first conversation is short and specific. Which city and, if it is a hillside or a canyon lot, roughly where. What the house has today: the size of the service, whether there is natural gas, whether there is a generator, a Lutron system or an existing automation head end. What you want to be true in six months. Whether there is a builder, an architect, a designer or an integrator already involved, because County Line works with all of them and would rather meet them at the start than at trim. And when the work has to be done, because the honest answer to a question about schedule is the one that decides whether the company is the right fit.
From that call comes a site visit, and from the site visit a written proposal with inclusions and exclusions listed. No number is quoted on the phone, because a number quoted on the phone is a guess, and a guess is what change orders are made of.
