What is different here

Three building departments, one county, and a fire that came through the orchards.

The City of Ventura, officially San Buenaventura, permits homes inside its limits; Camarillo and Ojai have their own building divisions; everything between them, the hillside ranches and the avocado and citrus country, is unincorporated Ventura County. Power across all of it is Southern California Edison. The Thomas Fire of December 2017 burned from Santa Paula through Ventura's hillside neighborhoods to the edge of downtown, and the Mountain Fire of November 2024 destroyed homes in the Camarillo Heights and Santa Rosa Valley area east of the city. Both left rebuilds that are still in progress and left residents in the hills expecting SCE shutoffs every windy fall.

County Line works this part of the county as home ground: new custom homes in Ventura's hillsides, Camarillo's Santa Rosa Valley and the Ojai Valley, generators across all of it, and the complete electrical on Mountain Fire rebuilds.

Mountain Fire rebuilds

Camarillo Heights and the Santa Rosa Valley.

The Mountain Fire moved fast through the hills between Moorpark and Camarillo in November 2024 and took homes on large lots that had been there for decades. Rebuilding them is ground-up electrical: temporary power, new SCE service, a panel sized for a modern house, rough-in to the current code, and nearly always a standby generator, because the same hills will see shutoffs again. Ventura County permits the unincorporated lots and the City of Camarillo the rest. Fire rebuild electrical describes the sequence.

Ventura County questions

Does County Line Electric work in Ventura and Camarillo?

Yes. County Line Electric is a Ventura County contractor based in Newbury Park and works in Ventura, Camarillo, Oxnard, Moorpark and Ojai on new custom homes, Generac standby generators, Lutron lighting and automation, EV chargers and the rebuilding of homes lost in the November 2024 Mountain Fire.

Who issues electrical permits in Ventura?

The City of Ventura building division for addresses inside the city, the City of Camarillo and the City of Ojai for theirs, and Ventura County for unincorporated areas such as the Santa Rosa Valley and the Ojai Valley outside the city. Electric service is Southern California Edison. County Line Electric pulls the permits on its jobs.

Does County Line Electric work on Mountain Fire rebuilds?

Yes. County Line Electric wires homes being rebuilt after the November 2024 Mountain Fire in the Camarillo Heights and Santa Rosa Valley area, from temporary power and new SCE service through rough-in, standby generator and the final inspection.

The coast and the hills

Two kinds of Ventura house.

Ventura's custom homes are on the hillsides above downtown and along the coast toward Solimar and Faria, where salt air, wind and the Thomas Fire footprint shape the electrical, and inland in the Ojai Valley and the Santa Rosa Valley, where wells, agriculture and the Mountain Fire do. County Line works both. A coastal house gets corrosion-rated exterior equipment and a generator sited away from the spray; a valley ranch gets a service sized for the well, the barn and the shop, and a generator that carries the pumps. The permitting authority follows the address: the City of Ventura inside its limits, Camarillo and Ojai inside theirs, Ventura County for the rest.

The first call

What County Line asks about your project.

The first conversation is short and specific. Which city and, if it is a hillside or a canyon lot, roughly where. What the house has today: the size of the service, whether there is natural gas, whether there is a generator, a Lutron system or an existing automation head end. What you want to be true in six months. Whether there is a builder, an architect, a designer or an integrator already involved, because County Line works with all of them and would rather meet them at the start than at trim. And when the work has to be done, because the honest answer to a question about schedule is the one that decides whether the company is the right fit.

From that call comes a site visit, and from the site visit a written proposal with inclusions and exclusions listed. No number is quoted on the phone, because a number quoted on the phone is a guess, and a guess is what change orders are made of.
