Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Holmby Hills

Lutron lighting control in Beverly Hills and Bel Air.

The lighting designers who work in Beverly Hills and Bel Air draw the most detailed plans in the city, and the electrical has to match them exactly. County Line Electric installs the Lutron HomeWorks systems behind those plans: hundreds of fixtures, dozens of zones, Ketra where the color of the light matters, shades on every window that counts, programmed with the designer in the room.

Why here

Two utilities, two building departments, one standard.

Beverly Hills is its own city on Southern California Edison; Bel Air and Holmby Hills are City of Los Angeles on LADWP. The lighting control system does not care, but the electrician has to, because the dimming panels, the service and the permits differ. What is the same on both sides of the line is the expectation: a Lutron HomeWorks system that does exactly what the lighting designer drew, with every fixture on the right zone, every keypad engraved correctly, the shades quiet and the scenes tuned to the rooms.

County Line installs those systems on new construction, with the panels and keypad runs going in at rough-in by the crew wiring the house, and on remodels of the estates north of Sunset after a survey of the existing wiring. It sits in the design meetings, builds the fixture schedule into the circuiting, and programs the scenes with the designer and the owner present. The office is about fifty minutes away in Newbury Park.

The pieces

What a Westside Lutron system is made of.

Lutron HomeWorks system

Dimming panels

Every circuit in the house landed in centralized panels. The wall carries one keypad, not twelve dimmers.

Room lit with Ketra tunable white light

Ketra

Tunable fixtures in the rooms where the color of the light is part of the design: galleries, primary suites, kitchens.

Linear cove lighting

Architectural fixtures

Downlights, linear coves and wall washes placed to the designer's drawing, with the beam and the dimming curve they specified.

Motorized roman shades

Shades

Lutron motorized shades, sheer and blackout in layers where the design calls for it, on the same keypads and schedules as the lights.

Beverly Hills and Bel Air lighting questions

Does County Line Electric install Lutron HomeWorks in Beverly Hills and Bel Air?

Yes. County Line Electric designs and installs Lutron HomeWorks lighting control, Ketra tunable lighting and Lutron motorized shades in Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Holmby Hills and Brentwood, in new construction and in remodels, working from the lighting designer's drawings and programming the scenes with the designer and the owner present.

Will County Line work with my lighting designer?

Yes, and prefers to. County Line Electric sits in the design meetings, builds the fixture schedule into the circuiting at rough-in, and programs the finished system with the designer in the room so the scenes match the intent.

Can a Lutron system be added to an existing Bel Air estate?

Usually. County Line Electric surveys the existing wiring first and says honestly whether a wired HomeWorks system or a wireless Lutron system is the right answer for the house. The survey comes before any proposal.

How a lighting project runs

From the first conversation to the last scene.

  1. 01

    Consultation

Which rooms, how they are used, what the house has today, whether a designer is involved. At the house, no charge.

  2. 02

    Design

A fixture schedule and a control plan: zones, keypads, shades, Ketra where it earns its place. Reviewed with the designer if there is one.

  3. 03

    Proposal

Written, itemized: panels, processor, keypads, fixtures, shades, programming, inclusions and exclusions.

  4. 04

    Rough-in or survey

New construction: panels and keypad runs go in with the electrical. Existing house: a survey decides wired versus wireless before anything is quoted.

  5. 05

    Trim and programming

Devices, engraving, scenes written with the owner and the designer in the room. Then a walkthrough.

  6. 06

    After

Scene changes as the household settles in. A keypad that says Dinner should do what you mean by dinner.

Wired or wireless

The question every existing house asks first.

Lutron makes two kinds of system. HomeWorks is wired: every lighting circuit runs to dimming panels in a utility room, and the keypads are low-voltage devices on a bus. It is the system for new construction and for a remodel that opens the walls, because it is the most reliable and the most capable. Lutron's wireless systems put the dimmer in the wall box where the switch was and talk to a processor by radio. They are the right answer for a finished house that is not being gutted, and they are a great deal better than the smart bulbs and plug-in dimmers that get abandoned after a year.

County Line installs both and tells you which one the house can take. The survey is where that is decided, and it is free.

Logistics

How County Line works in Beverly Hills and Bel Air.

The office is in Newbury Park, about fifty minutes away. Lighting projects are scheduled by the phase: the rough-in crew stays for the rough-in, the trim and programming crew stays until the last scene is right. The company says this plainly because a contractor who pretends to be local to every city on its website is not telling the truth about any of them, and because the honest version is still a good one: a crew that is on site for the duration of a phase does better work than one that drives in for an hour.

Service visits, generator maintenance and small jobs are scheduled in batches by area, so the crew is in one part of the map for the day rather than crossing it.
